Manningham Interfaith Network – Interfaith Discovery Tour

On 2nd March 2014, Fo Guang Shan Er You Temple was proud to host a visit by the Manningham Interfaith Network, as part of its activities – Interfaith Discovery Tour.

Manningham is a neighbouring local council of Whitehorse, where Fo Guang Shan Er You Temple is located. About 40 visitors from the network, who represent the various faiths including Hindus, Christians, Jewish etc., participated in this event. The purpose of the visit is to explore the spirituality and beliefs of different faiths; hence to promote respect, goodwill and tolerance for a harmonious living in a multi-cultural society of Melbourne.

Led by Venerable Man Ching, the devotees at Fo Guang Shan Er You Temple worked together to ensure the success of this event. The arrival of the visitors was greeted with enthusiasm. After a tour of the temple, the program commenced with a light offering ceremony and singing to the hymn “Ode to Triple Gem”, which the visitors joined in.

Fo Guang Shan Er You Temple had the privilege to introduce the visitors about Grand Master Venerable Hsing Yun, Fo Guang Shan and Buddha Memorial Center. In keeping with the purpose of the visit, the guests were enlightened about Master’s tireless efforts to propagate Humanistic Buddhism and also the importance of applying it in our daily lives to foster compassion for the wellbeing of others.

The program followed with a hand-performance to the song “Harmonize”, performed by ten passionate youths from the Young Adult Division 3 and Bodhi Youth Group. As a token of appreciation for their visit, the little children from the temple’s weekly Sunday Chinese class presented each guest with a handmade souvenir. The event concluded with light refreshment; prepared by staff from the Water Drop Teahouse.

The participants of the Manningham Interfaith Network generally had a positive experience from their visit to Fo Guang Shan Er You Temple. Not only had this event gave the guests an insight about Venerable Master Hsing Yun and Humanistic Buddhism; it gave the devotees at Fo Guang Shan Er You Temple the opportunity to warmly extend their hospitality to the community.
